The Challenge
The hospital’s traditional parking management system caused many operational and logistical issues. As entrance to the hospital is via shared car park entry lanes, ambulances were often forced to wait in line with other cars, delaying treatment to critical patients.
The system was unreliable, with low license plate recognition rates and constant calls to customer support. Parking tickets were being littered on hospital grounds, blocking the sewerage systems. The hospital was considering installing expensive fiber optic network cables to combat network communication issues, before discovering Technoso’s innovative and cost-effective wireless parking management system.
The main challenges:
- To streamline the entire entrance/exit process to increase the speed with which all vehicles could enter/exit the car park.
- To improve License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology so the system could differentiate between visitors, staff and emergency vehicles, particularly so emergency vehicles could enter faster and without the need for ticket processing.
- To reduce the need for paper tickets.
The Solution
The installation of Technoso’s wireless parking management system resulted in a complete overhaul of the hospital’s car park operations. The automatic, AI powered system includes:
- 4 Ticket-Recycle entry terminals, using LPR, allows for contactless, ticketless entry
- 4 Ticket-Recycle exit terminals
- 5 Pay-on-Foot stations, enabling customers to pre-pay parking fees before exiting the car park. The stations accept a wide range of payment options including cash and credit card (EMV chip, contactless swipe and mobile wallets).
- Integration with car park payment apps Pango and Cellopark.
- Intercoms at every terminal.
The Result
Management at the Barzilai Medical Center reported numerous positive outcomes following the installation of Technoso’s ticketless parking management system and advanced, web-based BI reporting and analytics tools.
Firsty, the client saved the tens of thousands of dollars it was considering spending on a fiber optic network by choosing Technoso’s wireless system.
Secondly, all operational and logistical issues were greatly improved:
- License plate recognition rates increased to 99%; less than 1% of vehicles required a (reusable) ticket.
- During rush hour, entrance wait times were reduced from 15-30 minutes to 2 minutes per vehicle.
- Customer support calls via intercom declined by 50%.
- Exit gate wait times reduced by 80%.
- Fairer payment requirements of once every 24 hours for visitors entering/exiting the car park multiple times a day were introduced.
- Cleaning of the hospital’s sewerage systems due to paper ticket blockages was no longer required thanks to the ticketless system.
- The ticketless system also proved beneficial during the Covid-19 pandemic, as contactless terminals meant the risk of virus transmission at terminals was removed.
- The system was also integrated with the ‘National Repository of Vehicles for the Disabled’, enabling vehicles registered as disabled to be recognised by LPR technology, granting free exit from the car park.
Finally, the client saw a 20% increase in profits from the car park.
